TOURISM

Griekenland.net celebrates its 15 years anniversary in The Netherlands and organized a fundraiser for the Mediterranean Monk Seals in Greece on their stand at the leading leisure and holiday exhibition De Vakantiebeurs in January.

With the total amount of 403 euro Monk seal Little Bill has been adopted. The Monachus Monachus, as the Mediterranean Monk Seals are called in Greece, are a threatened species. The Greek society MOm (Hellenic Society for the Study and Protection of the Monk Seal) protects and helps the Monk seals in the National Marine Park of Alonissos.

Little Bill from Halkidiki

Little Bill is a young Mediterranean Monk Seal which has been found alone in November 2016 on a beach in Ormos Panagias on Sithonia on Halkidiki. His mother left him and volunteers of the MOm society rescued the pup from the isolated beach. The little boy was underfed and is now treated in the first aid center of MOm in Attica on the mainland of Greece.

At the moment Little Bill is in a much better condition and weights 30 kilos. After some more treatment he will be ready to return into the Aegean Sea. “We are very happy that we could help Little Bill and MOm society in Greece. We collected in total 403 euro with a tasting of Greek cognac during our participation at the Vakantiebeurs in Utrecht from 11th till 15th of January” according to Bas Wanrooij owner of Griekenland.net.

Sea turtle Retsina

Last year Griekenland.net adopted a wounded Caretta Caretta sea turtle named Retsina from Archelon society. The turtle has been totally recovered from her injuries and, after a treatment of more than two months, she has been released into the Greek waters.
