TOURISM WORLD

The top value post-Brexit vote overseas city break destinations are revealed by travel deals publisher Travelzoo.

The European capitals of Paris and Berlin fall into the category alongside Krakow in Poland, Porto and Gibraltar.

The results come from which European city destinations are offering the best value to help UK travellers decide where to book for the autumn.

It comes amid concerns about the fluctuating cost of travel to European destinations, despite the pound recovering from a three-year low against the euro last month.
A Travelzoo spokeswoman said: “Autumn is always a popular time for city breaks – particularly in Europe –  and we know that ongoing concerns about the value of the pound against the euro are making it harder for British consumers to find an affordable European short break this year.

Print“The good news is we are seeing some great deals in the market for major European cities such as Paris and Berlin – and we would also urge people to consider lesser-known cities such as Krakow, Porto and Gibraltar as they offer good value for money.”

The impact of terrorist attacks, floods and strikes mean that Paris has lost out on an estimated €750 million in revenue, prompting hotels in the French capital to slash rates, with Travelzoo quoting prices starting at £97 a night.

Flights to Berlin with Ryanair are 45%-63% cheaper this September against the same time last year, which combined with budget-friendky accommodation and new hotels, make the German capital an affordable option.

Porto is seen as a cheaper alternative to Lisbon – particularly for food and drink, as beer often comes in at less than €1 and port tours with tasting can cost around £4.

Flights from the UK to Gibraltar this month with Monarch are around 37% cheaper than in September, 2015, while food and drink costs maen that a meal fro two can cost less than £30, according to Travelzoo research.

Admission free days for museums in Krakov help make the Polish city better value for culture seekers. For example, the National Museum is free every Sunday and Kazimierz’s Old Synagogue and Schindler’s Factory are both free on Mondays.
