-8.2% increase in passenger traffic at the 24 CAA airports for the first five months of 2025
An increase of 8.2% in passenger traffic at the 24 airports managed by the CAA (Heraklion, Kalamata, Alexandroupoli, Limnos, Astypalaia, Ioannina, Chios, Chios, Kozani, Kastoria, Karpathos, Kythira, Milos, Skyros, Nea Anchialos, Paros, Syros, Araxos, Naxos, Kalymnos, Ikaria, Kastelorizo, Kasos, Leros, Sitia) in the first five months of 2025, compared to the corresponding period of 2024.
More specifically, according to the statistics: the total number of passengers (international and domestic passenger arrivals and departures) in January-May 2025 amounted to 2,708,965 passengers, compared to 2,504,584 passengers in 2024.
May 2025: Heraklion Airport served over 1.05 million passengers
As reported by M&T, the state-owned Heraklion Crete Airport served 1,054,181 passengers in May, an increase of 2% compared to the same month last year. At the same time, the most significant percentage increases in passenger traffic at CAA-managed airports in May 2025, compared to 2024, were recorded at Nea Anchialos airport +313.8% (3,716 passengers). in ’25 – 898 in ’24), at Ioannina airport +56.1% (12,680 in ’25 – 8,122 in ’24), at Araxos airport +30.2% (15,544 in ’25 – 11,940 in ’24) and at Naxos airport +24.8% (21,441 in ’25 – 17,174 in ’24).
6.4% increase in passenger traffic and 5.2% increase in aircraft movements at the country’s 39 airports
An increase of 6.4% in passenger traffic for the first five months of 2025 at all the country’s airports with commercial flights (39 airports: 24 CAA, 14 FRAPORT GREECE, AIA). Specifically, passenger traffic in the period January-May 2025 reached 21,830,648, compared to 20,518,545 passengers in the corresponding period of 2024.
Regarding the number of aircraft movements (arrivals and departures of domestic and international aircraft) for the first five months of 2025, the total of 39 airports in the country, whose air traffic control is mainly exercised by the CAA, recorded an increase of 5.2% compared to 2024. In particular, a total of 177,397 flights took place between January and May 2025, compared to 168,604 flights in the first five months of 2024.
