90% of hotels in Calvia, Mallorca open from March

TOURISM WORLD

-The municipality of Calvia, in Mallorca, announced the opening of 90% of the hotels already since March, encouraging holidaymakers to book their next holidays in this tourist “bastion” of the popular Balearic island.

Calvia is located in the southwest of Mallorca and is the second largest municipality on the island. With areas such as Pegerra, Santa Poncha and Magaluf, it is one of the island’s destinations that hosts the most holidaymakers.

According to a report in Última Hora, some hotels in Calvia have already opened. These are located, among others, in Peguera and Cala Fornells. Currently, 35% of the hotels there are already open.

As announced by the municipality, three hotels around Santa Poncha have started to open, and the surrounding shops and restaurants are also slowly waking up from hibernation.

However, in Palmanova and Magaluf, only two of the ten hotels are currently open.

According to information from the municipality of Kalvia, some hotels will open earlier than usual this year. In particular, they are expected to open their doors between 20 and 25 March.

Meanwhile, according to the same report, the Spanish hotel chain Meliá, for example, will open seven of its ten hotels in Palmanova and Magaluf in March. “While, at the same time last year, not a single hotel had opened in the region at this time last year,” it said.

However, there is a slight downside for hoteliers in the holiday community of Calvia, who are concerned that demand for holidays in the area is, so far, lower than last year at this time. This is attributed to the increase in air ticket prices and the downturn in the German market. In this context, hotel occupancy in the region in February is around 60%, whereas in the same month in 2023 it was around 80%.
