Helicopter flights are suspended for three months to/from five sites that were operating as heliports in Santorini and are located, as stated in the relevant NOTAM, in the areas of Vothonas-Kamari, Akrotiri, Megalochori (2) and Imerovigli.
This was preceded by a document from the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Naxos to the Civil Aviation Authority, published by the newspaper Proto Thema, which states, among other things, that “the existence of unsuitable landing fields was found, which in no case do not meet the conditions specified”.
The issue of helicopter flights, which use as permanent take-off and landing fields various areas in Santorini and not the Thira State Airport, has been repeatedly discussed on the island and there has always been concern about both the safety levels and the nuisance they create for residents and visitors.

Speaking today (22/8) on ERT NEWS about the prosecutor’s intervention that temporarily banned the flights of private helicopters in Santorini, the Mayor of Thira Nikos Zorzos said that until there is a licensed heliport, the flights of helicopters will remain stopped and is sought, in consultation with the CAA, the possibility of having a municipal heliport so as to serve such needs.
