A Greek city among Airbnb’s most affordable destinations in 2023

Thessaloniki is among Airbnb’s seven most affordable destinations in terms of accommodation costs in 2023, according to data from the popular short-term rental platform.

In particular, Thessaloniki is in fifth place in the ranking with destinations that travelers paid for their stay daily up to $ 100.

In first place is Porto Alegre, in Brazil, in second place Dijon, in France, followed by Monterrey, Mexico, Malacca, Malaysia, Agadir, Morocco and Winnipeg, Canada.

In 2023, Airbnb guests traveled to more than 100,000 cities and towns in more than 200 countries and territories, making it the year with the largest dispersion of travelers ever recorded on the platform.

Over 4,000 cities and towns around the world welcomed their first Airbnb stays last year, and the vast majority (nearly 80%) of these new Airbnb destinations were in non-urban locations around the world.

“From the small, historic city of Huépac, Mexico, to the picturesque town of Nakatonbetsu, located in Hokkaido, Japan, our guests thought outside the box to find new locations last year,” the platform says, claiming that hosts now number 5 million. on a global scale.

According to the platform, the average nightly price for a one-bedroom accommodation listing in December 2023 was $114, down 2%, from the same month last year, while hotel prices rose 7% to $149 in the same period.

In 2023, the top 10 most visited destinations on Airbnb accounted for about 7% of nights, compared to 10% in 2019.

The cities with the highest percentage of visitors traveling abroad in 2023, globally, according to Airbnb are: Singapore, Luxembourg, Doha (Qatar), Hong Kong (China), Kuwait, Ljubljana (Slovenia), Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague (Netherlands) and Geneva (Switzerland).
