Increasing interest in accommodation in cities hosting major sporting events and for experiential stays, Airbnb reported, revealing summer booking trends for 2024.
The short term rental platform said that cities hosting games, such as Paris, Lille and Munich, are seeing increased interest as excitement builds ahead of the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games and the European Football Championship.
Paris is the city with the most searches on Airbnb globally for accommodation this summer. Listing page views during the Games period were on average 11 times higher in the French host cities, which also include Lille, Lyon and Versailles, compared to last year.
Apart from Munich, other German cities hosting the Euro 2024 games – such as Dortmund and Stuttgart – also feature prominently in Airbnb’s search results.
Visitors looking for accommodation and game-based experiences
According to Airbnb , guests are looking for “experiential stays that are destinations in their own right”, with searches for the ” Play” category more than doubling for this summer.
Meanwhile, the popular platform found a 30% increase in searches for outdoor facilities in June, July and August, with the site’s “Play” category including listings with amenities such as basketball courts, game rooms, trampolines and waterslides.

Nearly three in five Airbnb guests say the ability to host their entire family in one place is an important selection factor when booking, according to a recent survey by the company. While, for 71% amenities such as kitchens, workspaces and backyards are important while booking.
