Andros, with its unique Tourlitis lighthouse, is 10th on their list of beautiful locations worldwide with impressive lighthouses that have stood the test of time.
As the introduction to the feature article aptly states, “The lighthouse is a universal symbol of safety and guidance.” Although they are gradually losing their usefulness, lighthouses remain epic monuments that demonstrate human ingenuity and resilience. Most of those that survive today are architectural and engineering marvels that still attract the interest of travelers.”
The list includes locations in Wales, France, Portugal, the US, Spain, Germany, Chile, Argentina, Ireland, Belgium, Sweden, the UK, Norway, and Iceland.
At the same time, the French website, which has millions of readers, published a detailed travel article on Andros, highlighting the different aspects of this Cycladic destination.
The extensive feature begins with Chora, which, “unlike other Cycladic capitals, stands out with its magnificent neoclassical mansions with red-tiled roofs.” The cobbled streets and Kairi Square with its large marble fountain charm every visitor. The remains of the Lower Castle at the tip of the Chora peninsula, dating from the 13th century, are one of the most photogenic spots on the island, while the museums of Chora impress with their rich collections. Andros has pleasant surprises in store throughout its territory, such as Batsi, one of the most touristy spots on the island, reminiscent of a postcard; Gavrio, the island’s port, which retains its own “character”; and many more picturesque villages that “live” in the green.
According to the article, the island’s beautiful beaches with turquoise and green-blue waters, the impressive network of trails, centuries-old monasteries with their historical treasures, and the unique local cuisine with its fruity wine and delicious omelet are some of the destination’s distinctive features.
It should be noted that a journalist from the French media was given detailed information about the island at the international tourism exhibition in Berlin and was impressed by the fact that Andros remains authentic, without the mass tourism of other islands.
“Andros offers a combination of quality experiences that make it an excellent Cycladic choice for relaxation, entertainment, vacation, and activities just two hours from Rafina. “We invite you to our own special summer,” says Nikos Moustakas, the Andros Municipality’s tourism councilor.
