Athens airport: April’s reached Record Levels

During April Athens airport’s passenger traffic reached record levels and amounted to 1.47 million exceeding the respective 2015 levels by 1.2% despite a. the 24-h strike on April 7th and  b. the comparison to April’s 2015 extremely strong passenger numbers due to the positive and combined impact of both the Catholic and the Orthodox Easters. 

aia_passenger-traffic aia_greeks aia_foreign_1Domestic passengers grew by 4.3% breaking the April 2015 record, whereas international travellers saw a minor decline of 0.5%. Greek travellers continued their positive development even though at a lower rate than the previous months increasing by 5.7%, whereas foreign visitors were marginally below the April 2015 traffic (-1.8%), mainly due to the high 2015 Easter levels.

Athens International Airport’s number of flights during April amounted to almost 15 thousands (14,470) presenting a small rise of 0.6%. Domestic flights were slightly reduced by 1.3% while international services demonstrated a 2% increase.
