Athens is among the 41 destinations recommended by Condé Nast Traveller (CNT) for city breaks in Europe in 2024, ranging from popular, first-class destinations to lesser-known and underrated destinations.
According to the authoritative American medium, Athens has a charming blend of ancient and modern culture.
“Athens has experienced a real renaissance in recent years and has emerged as one of the best cities in Europe for city breaks. Of course, there are still areas of the city that have retained their original character, with the Acropolis towering over hilly streets lined with dilapidated buildings and politically charged street art, but a new wave of creative energy is leading the change.”
According to CNT, today, the city is filled with quirky pop-ups, start-ups, art galleries, “fresh” small boutiques and a number of exciting new hotels.
The medium makes special mention of the beaches on pine-clad peninsulas and golden sands, where quaint family-run restaurants meet glitzy beach clubs.
