The elections at the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels are in the final straight line, as yesterday the relevant decisions were taken by the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels (HCH).
According to exclusive information from MONEY & TOURISM, the issue was raised personally by the president of Hellenic Chamber of Hotels, Mr. Alexandros Vasilikos, opening the discussion, aiming -as it became clear- to speed up the procedures and hold elections in October.
As decided, the next Board of Directors, which will meet on September 3, will be the one to formally approve the notice. Subsequently, on 3 October, the candidates will be announced, with the submission of nominations and the relevant scrutiny, with the aim of holding the elections around 20 October. It has been decided to shorten the deadlines and speed up the process in order to reduce the time needed for the submission of nominations, the scrutiny and the declaration of candidates, in order to respect the strict October timetable.
The new management will take office on 1.1.2026.
Regarding the nominations, for the position of president, there are at least 3 interested parties, but everything will depend on whether the Ministry of Tourism, with legislative intervention allow the current president to re-candidate, as under the statute, not allowed 3rd term and Alexandros Vasilikos has exhausted the two entitled. Indeed, the relevant disclosure was made by Μ&T in the column ‘The DETECTIVE’. Any legislative regulation – if there is one – should be made before the Parliament closes, as on September 3, when the process will start, the landscape should be clear.
THE ELECTION GOVERNMENT GAZETTE ISSUE IS HERE
Electoral tension and candidates in waiting
Although no official nominations have been announced for the time being, according to well-informed sources of MONEY & TOURISM, several hoteliers are exploring the intentions and balances, with an eye on the process. There are stakeholders who are gauging their strengths – and their alliances – without yet having made any final decisions.
The picture so far shows that the elections to the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels will be – as in previous contests – multi-factorial, with an emphasis on regional balances, but also the strong presence of large hotel groups.
A Greek Chamber of Hotels at a critical juncture
The new administration of the Greek Tourism Board that will emerge from the October elections will be called upon to manage important issues, from the green transition of Greek tourism and the connection of hotels with sustainable practices, to the issue of the management of the accommodation tax and the support of small and medium-sized enterprises in the sector, which is a major issue.
Finally, it is worth noting that the decision to speed up the procedures and hold elections in the autumn is already paving the way for intense behind-the-scenes processes.
