British Airways: changes to the 2025 summer schedule due to a problem in the delivery of spare parts

British Airways (BA) has confirmed further changes to its routes for the summer of 2025 due to delays in the supply and delivery of spare parts for aircraft engines flying to long-haul destinations.

This decision was taken due to maintenance problems with Rolls-Royce engines affecting Boeing 787 Dreamliners.

BA has reportedly withdrawn flights to Dallas Fort Worth for the summer of 2025 and reduced frequency to Miami, with transatlantic partner American Airlines taking over the flights.
A spokesman for the airline said: “We are disappointed to have been forced to make further changes to our schedule as we continue to experience delays in the delivery of engines and spare parts from Rolls-Royce – particularly in relation to the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines fitted to our 787 aircraft. We have taken this action because we do not believe the issue will be resolved immediately and we want to give our customers the certainty they deserve for their travel plans.”

We have apologised to those affected and are able to offer the vast majority a same-day flight on British Airways or one of our partner airlines.

“We continue to work closely with Rolls-Royce to ensure that the company is aware of the impact its issues are having on our programme and our customers and we are seeking to ensure a prompt and reliable resolution,” he added.

Virgin Atlantic has also made changes to its schedule for the same reason, delaying the resumption of its Tel Aviv route for the winter 2025 season, as well as its new route to Accra.
Rolls-Royce has moved to integrate 50 employees into major suppliers to speed up the delivery of parts.

A company spokesman told the Sunday Times, “Given the impact of the extraordinary supply chain constraints, this is one of our top priorities. We have created an in-house Trent 1000 working group, leveraging our world-class engineering and technology capability. The working group brings together individuals from our supply chain, engineering, technology, safety and planning departments.”
