The beach of Minos Beach art hotel in Aghios Nikolaos Crete, part of bluegr Hotels & Resorts, received its 25th Blue Flag this year. The award is clear recognition of the group’s philosophy of respect for the environment and its policies on sustainability.
The hotel, a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, and bluegr Hotels & Resorts adhere to and implement faithfully the strict standards demanded of the programme. Four basic criteria are taken into consideration in order for the Blue Flag award to be accredited, which is recognised as one of the most significant ecological symbols of quality globally. The cleanliness of the water and the coastline, the organisation of the beach itself, the safety of its visitors, the protection of the natural surroundings and the raising of environmental awareness by educating both the workforce and visitors with organised activities related to the issue, are all essential requirements.
Apart from the beach at Minos Beach art hotel, the two sister hotels of the bluegr Group; Minos Palace hotel & suites and Candia Park village, also received the award again, having both held the esteemed distinction for more than a decade now. The awards are a culmination of all the ecological actions that bluegr Hotels & Resorts has undertaken in order to promote and protect the natural wealth of the island of Crete.
This year, Greece took second place out of the 47 countries which make up the list of Blue Flags for 2018, with 113 of the 519 Greek Blue Flags located in Crete.
