Conde Nast Traveler: This is the list of the best luxury hotels in Crete

The list of the best luxury hotels in Crete was compiled by the staff of Conde Nast Traveller for the tourist season that is just around the corner.

According to the well-known travel magazine “…there are countless reasons why Crete remains one of the most popular Greek islands. It is large and it is easy to find areas of isolation and authenticity, as well as historical and architectural monuments. Then there is the gastronomy and a multitude of quiet or cosmopolitan tavernas where freshly caught seafood dominates a simple menu of local delicacies.”

The Conde Nast Traveler list, which includes the best hotels in Crete in all prefectures, proposes, among others, the iconic Nana Princess in Heraklion, the Daios Cove in Agios Nikolaos, the Domes of Elounda of the Spanos Group, the Phaea of the Smpokos family, the Abaton of the Kaloutsakis family, etc.

The list

The list is as follows:

  • The Royal Senses Resort & Spa
  • Acro Wellness Suites
  • Numo, Ierapetra

    The Royal Blue Resort

  • Daios Cove Luxury Resort & Villas
  • Domes of Elounda

Domes of Elounda

  • Phāea Cretan, Μάλια

  • Pnoé Breathing Life

  • St Nicolas Bay

  • Kapsaliana Village

  • Elounda Peninsula, All Suite Hotel

  • Domes Zeen, Χανιά

  • Minos Beach Art Hotel

  • Metohi Kindelis

  • Nana Princess

  • Cayo Exclusive Resort & Spa

  • Abaton Island

Nana Princess

The suites and villas feature blissful private terraces with sea views, hot tubs or heated pools and many high-tech features such as chromotherapy lighting, LCD mirror TVs and fully equipped gyms. Video game enthusiasts should book the Royal Villa, which has an entire basement room filled with vintage games. But a key feature of the hotel is the space spa, which has an entire wing of wellness treatment rooms that are tailored to each guest’s zodiac sign.

Domes Zeen Chania

Concrete bungalows and Palm Springs-style pavilions are scattered along the hillside facing the sea, some of which have been purpose-built for families and have private pools. Outside is a black-tiled pool surrounded by straw umbrellas. At the same time, guests have the option of taking a boat ride or venturing out to beautiful Chania.

Pnoé Breathing Life

Just 10 minutes from Heraklion airport, this emerging hotel concept has a strong purity, with a pleasant reference to the dramatic Minoan architecture that has emerged in the history of Crete. The open architecture provides all-day sunshine with 60 private suites with a pool from a central courtyard and an almond-shaped pool at its heart. The spacious suites are all decorated in the same earthy palette that reflects the surrounding rocky landscape. Pnoé’s philosophy revolves around selecting the highest offerings from ‘indigenous’ Crete, supported by a collaboration with some of the island’s main players, namely Crete’s finest chef Panagiotis Manganas.

Domes of Elounda

More village than resort, the facilities – which include a sandy beach shaded by olive trees, several large swimming pools (one for adults only), gourmet restaurants, a kids’ club and a games room for teenagers – are excellent. Even the elegant spa has a specially designed menu of treatments for children. Families will love the self-catering facilities in the luxury residences, but privacy is better in the ultra-luxury villas, which resemble individual homes with indoor and outdoor gyms, saunas and pools.
