The top five most popular destinations for Austrian travellers this autumn include Greece and Heraklion in Crete, according to data from TUI Austria.
In particular, a survey by the leading tour operator on the destinations chosen by Austrians this autumn season showed that Heraklion is the third choice for autumn holidays in seaside destinations.
The most popular destination is Hurghada in Egypt, followed by Antalya in Turkey, in second place and Heraklion in Crete.
Dubai and the Maldives are the most popular long-haul holiday destinations this year.
“We are very pleased to have been able to successfully extend the tourist season for Crete again in autumn with a significant increase of almost 60% compared to the previous year of visitors,” said Katharina Doppler-Reitner, Head of Flight and Revenue Management at TUI Austria.
According to her, for the Greek island the tour operator offers several flights a week from Vienna and once a week from Linz and Salzburg. Meanwhile, TUI customers can, for now, still secure attractive bookings for the popular Greek island.
Larnaca in Cyprus and Gran Canaria in Spain also entered the top 5 destinations in the ranking of medium-haul destinations.
In the ranking of the countries with the top destinations of TUI Austria this autumn, Greece is in fourth place with an increase of 63% compared to last year, with Rhodes recording the highest increase.
In the long-haul sector, the United Arab Emirates holds the top spot again this year, followed by the Maldives and Mauritius. Whereas, Thailand is in fourth place, followed by the US.
The cost for a package holiday, which includes seven nights at Hotel Cactus Beach, in Crete, costs from 1,259 euros per person, in a double room, with all inclusive and flights from Salzburg, on October 27.
Similarly, the cost for seven nights at Hotel Delfina Tropic Beach in Crete costs from 1,319 euros per person in a double room with half board and flights from Vienna on October 26.
