Travel agencies in Germany continue to be positive, as both bookings and demand, as well as profits, continue to move in an improving environment, according to the latest tourism sales sentiment index from consultancy Dr Fried & Partner.
Travel sales in the German travel market appear to have improved in September. According to the index, 58.2% of respondents rated the situation in September as “good”. This represents a notable increase, compared to 51.9% in August. At the same time, the number of those who rated the sales situation as “satisfactory” also increased – from 37.8% to 51.9%. While, the percentage of respondents who rated the situation as “poor” decreased from 10.3% in August to 6.1%, according to Dr Fried & Partner.
Positive development of sales
Sales figures for the last two to three months, compared to the same months last year, are also developing positively. In September, 39.3% of respondents reported an increase in sales, an improvement on the 36% who reported an increase in sales in August. The percentage of those reporting no change in sales figures remained virtually unchanged at 39.9%. The percentage of respondents reporting a decline in sales fell from 23.4% in August to 20.8% in September.
Increased optimism for the next 6 months
Expectations for demand over the next six months are also slightly more optimistic in September, with 28.6% of respondents expecting demand to increase – almost 1% more than last month. The majority of respondents (57.7%) expect demand to remain flat – half a percentage point higher than in August. The percentage of those expecting a decline narrowed by 1.3 percentage points from August to 13.7% this month.
The picture is similar in terms of the earnings situation over the next six months, according to Dr Fried & Partner. 30.8% of travel experts expect profits to improve – some 2.6% more than in August. While, 52.1% believe there will be no change (August: 51%). At the same time, the percentage of those fearing deterioration fell from 20.7% in August to 17.2% in September.
In September 2024, 169 travel agencies took part in Dr Fried & Partner’s survey.
