Gold international certification Travelife awarded to all Mitsis Hotels for their sustainable performance

Prioritizing green growth and best ecological practices in the Greek tourist market, MITSIS HOTELS group has achieved another great distinction in the field of sustainable tourism.

This year, all 16 Mitsis Hotels received the internationally recognized Travelife for Hotels & Accommodations Gold Certification, following last year’s successful example of Mitsis Blue Domes Resort Spa.

logoThe Certification assessed the performance of all hotels in responsibly managing their socio-economic and environmental impacts. Through a detailed environmental plan, all Mitsis Hotels managed to meet successfully Travelife’s 163 sustainability criteria, including environmental and social issues, such as minimising the amount of energy, waste and water, as well as positive actions  for employee welfare, working with the local community and businesses and protecting local traditions and wildlife.

mitsis“Over the past few years, MITSIS HOTELS has put emphasis on the development of environmental awareness and social responsibility, adopting a comprehensive energy, water and raw materials conservation program, with a view to channeling economic benefits in favor of projects dedicated to the local communities“, said Stavros Mitsis, the Group’s Managing Director, who cited the activities realized by the hotels:

  1. Energy saving by replacing hotels’ conventional lamps with low-consumption LED lamps, use of photocells in public areas and replacement of oil and gas burners with new heat pumps Technology.
  2. Protection of water resources by producing water through the Reverse Osmosis process.
  3. Eliminating the use of single-use plastic cups and replacing plastic straws with biodegradable ones.
  4. Use of certified and non-environmentally harmful chemicals, cleaners and cosmetics
  5. Diligent recycling process of all waste produced such as plastic, glass, aluminum, cardboard, soap and cooked oils, light bulbs, batteries and electric equipment. Minimizing organic kitchen waste by composting.
  6. Environmental protection by organizing tree planting and beach clean-ups with the participation of hotel guests.
  7. Purchase of products prioritizing species derived from sustainable crops, from local suppliers and recycled products.
  8. Support of the local community, the children and youth, with activities such as:
  • financial aid to local teams
  • participating in local events and festivals
  • supporting and promoting local products and producers
  1. Continuous training of hotel staff in waste management, energy and water saving and environmental protection.
