The 7th Porto Carras Pro-Am & Open 2016 was organized with great success, on Sunday May 8th 2016, at the impressive facilities of Porto Carras Grand Resort, providing the participants as well as the organizers with intense feelings and memories.
The award ceremony of the Pro-Am tournament took place on Saturday May 7th in the fully renovated luxurious Crystals restaurant at the Porto Carras Meliton 5* hotel. The prizes were given out, among others, by Ms. Marianna Stengou, the Vice President of Porto Carras & Vice President of the Greek Golf Federation, who during her speech, stated: “Being here, we all serve a common goal – uniting cultures through sport and promoting Greece as a Golf Destination. I want to thank PGA Greece for its quick response when we asked them to support our initiative and get involved in the successful hosting of this international tournament. I am also taking this opportunity to thank all of our sponsors: Aegean Airlines for the sponsoring of the tickets of the pros, Lidl Hellas for the refreshments and snacks they provided during the tournament , Koulaouzidou furs for the gift bags and last but not least Porto Carras Grand Resort and Domaine Porto Carras for providing this evening’s dinner including the wines.”
At the renovated 18-hole golf course of Porto Carras and between 100 players from 13 countries who took part, there was strong competition, with the British professional Steve Parry winning in the professional category, with a total score of 209 (68-71-70, -7) and the Greek George Diakou on the second spot with 210 hits (71-71-68, -6). At the amateurs’ Gross category, the winner was Kostas Diakou with 30 points and at the Net category Russian Aleksei Brinev with 37 points. At the group category, the winner was the Greek team with Christos Nikopoulos as a professional and Nikos Dontas, Nikos Halampalakis and Eleni Diakou as the amateurs. In total the professionals shared the amount of 13.000 € in prize money.
At the welcome ceremony that took place on the first day of the tournament, at the wine tasting room “Melissanthi” of Domaine Porto Carras, the participants tasted the award winning biological Porto Carras wines accompanied by local dishes, while everyone enjoyed the closing ceremony of the tournament at the veranda of the also renovated Golf & Country Club Café.
Guests and participants had the best words to say about the perfect hospitality and organization, while renewed their “date” for the next year at the 8th Porto Carras Pro-Am & Open, in a tournament that has become an institution in every golfer’s mind and each year attracts more and more participations.
