Greece and especially the Greek islands remain consistently popular travel options for the British in 2025, however, sharp increases are recorded in bookings to emerging destinations such as Romania and Albania, according to the findings of a survey conducted by online travel agent Loveholidays. The survey of travel trends this year also reveals a rise in solo holidays and city breaks, as well as bookings to faraway destinations.
Based on OTA data, bookings in the UK for travel to long-haul destinations are up 34% year-on-year, with the biggest increase being in Santa Maria, Cape Verde, up 109%. While, bookings to Cancun and Las Vegas are up 70% and 44%, respectively.
And while getaways to the Greek islands, the Canary Islands, mainland Spain and Turkey remain favourites for British holidaymakers this year, they are showing huge interest in other, emerging destinations. In particular, according to Loveholidays, holiday bookings to destinations such as Romania and Albania are seeing a sharp rise of 692% and 416% respectively.
At the same time, bookings for Thailand show a remarkable increase, which are up 101% year-on-year, while the interest of British holidaymakers is also attracted to Poland, Tunisia and Morocco, with bookings up by 59%, 45% and 30% respectively.
City breaks and solo travel in the spotlight
Another trend on the rise in 2025 is short city breaks, with bookings for January at Loveholidays doubling, recording a 51% increase compared to the same month last year.
At the same time, there is a significant increase in travel during the mid-season this year, with 26% more departures scheduled between March and May 2025, compared to the June – August 2025 quarter.
In the same vein, OTA sees a 43% increase in solo travel bookings year-on-year.
