Greek presence on the list of the 50 best beaches in the world

TOURISM WORLD

The list of the 50 best beaches in the world for 2025 has been released with a Greek element, as it includes three Greek beaches and three in the Ionian Sea.

More specifically, among the “best of the best” beaches around the world, in fourth place is Fteri beach in Argostoli, Kefalonia, in 16th place is Voutoumi beach in Antipaxos and in 36th place is Porto Katsiki in Lefkada.

The 2025 list is the culmination of countless days spent by the judges, beach ambassadors and the World’s 50 Beaches team exploring beaches around the world in the hope, they claim, of providing travellers with the inspiration they need to plan their next holiday.

About Fteri Beach in Kefalonia, the World’s 50 Beaches writers say that “it is tucked away in a secluded cove, surrounded by stunning white cliffs, and is accessible mainly by boat or by hiking along a steep path. Its isolation contributes to its pristine and serene atmosphere, differentiating it from more tourist destinations’.

In the description of Voutoumi beach, it is mentioned that it is accessible mainly by boat, maintaining its quietness and untouched beauty, compared to the more accessible Greek beaches. “Voutoumi Beach, famous for its deep blue waters and beautiful mix of pebbles and fine white sand, is nestled at the base of a steep, green hill. The cypress trees reach all the way to the shore, creating an amazing Mediterranean island atmosphere,’ the description adds.

As for Porto Katsiki, it is said to stand out not only for the beach itself, but also for the incredible environment that surrounds it. According to the description, the beach is framed by massive, rugged limestone cliffs, often covered with classic Mediterranean vegetation, consists of small white pebbles and its waters are strikingly turquoise and crystal clear. “Porto Katsiki is known for its difficult access, with most visitors choosing it to feel closer to nature,” the publication underlines.
