According to INSETE data, in the first quarter of 2024, international air and road arrivals increased by 12.3%, with Crete and the Dodecanese islands standing out compared to the first quarter of last year, while road arrivals increased by 5.1% in the same period.

International Air Arrivals
In the period January – April 2024, 3.1 million international air arrivals were recorded, surpassing the levels of January – April 2023, showing an increase of +12.3%/+335 thousand arrivals. As recorded by INSETE, the individual geographical units had an increase in the period January – April 2024, with the exception of the Cyclades. In particular, in the geographical unit of Crete, international air arrivals reached 312,000, recording an increase of +8,000 / + 2.8%. International air arrivals at Dodecanese airports amounted to 208,000, an increase of 21,000/+11.3%.

Road Arrivals
In the period January – April 2024, INSEETE notes that 1.8 million international road arrivals were recorded, compared to 1.7 million in the period January – April 2023, representing an increase of +5.1%/+85 thousand road arrivals.
In the period January-April 2024, arrivals from North Macedonia decreased by -32 thousand /-6.4% with road arrivals reaching 468 thousand and from Albania -38 thousand. /-On the other hand, the increase from Bulgaria was +51 thousand / +10.6% with 532 thousand arrivals and from Turkey +104 thousand / +49.0% with road arrivals of 317 thousand.
Travel Revenue
In the period January-March 2024, travel receipts increased by +28.2% compared to the corresponding period of 2023 and amounted to €942 million.
This development is due to the increase in receipts from residents of European Union countries by +48.2%, which amounted to €470 million, as well as the increase in receipts from residents of other countries by +13.1% to €451 million.
In particular, receipts from Germany increased by +43.8% to €96 million, while receipts from France decreased by -3.7% to €50 million.
Among the other countries, receipts from the United Kingdom increased by +4.8% to €57 million, while receipts from the United States increased by +32.4% to €101 million.
Hotel quality indicators of Greece and competitors
In April 2024, Greece and Cyprus are ranked first in the overall hotel satisfaction index (GRI) with 87%. Turkey and Spain are in second place with 85%, followed by Italy with 84%. In last place is France with 81%.
