Greece seems to dominate Indians’ travel and holiday choices, according to the findings of a report by tourism information company Mabrian, presented during the London International Tourism Fair.
The report ‘India Market Insights: Outbound & Inbound’, which was presented during a panel dedicated to the strong growth of the Indian, travel market at the World Travel and Tourism Resilience Council, held as part of World Travel Market 2024, points out that by 2030, the outbound, Indian, travel market could reach 100 million international trips.
This study provides a comprehensive overview of the travel and tourism market in the world’s fifth largest economy, India. With a population of 1.4 billion and a growing middle class, projected to account for 60% of the demographic pyramid by 2047, India’s growing consumer base is set to play a key role in boosting the contribution of travel and tourism to the country’s GDP. Currently at 6.5%, this sector is expected to grow faster than the overall economy.
The impressive potential of India’s travel market is highlighted by Mabrian’s marketing and communications director, Carlos Cendra, who says that “by 2030, the outbound market could reach 100 million international trips, a number comparable to the total annual visitors to France, since only 2% of Indians’ travel plans include foreign destinations.

Demand for Greece is high, which stands at a double-digit 18.3%. Austria follows with an increase of around 10% (9.8% to be precise), Germany with an increase of 7.3%, Spain with 3.8% and Italy with 2.7%. Greece and Austria showed the highest growth in Indian arrivals in the last 12 months.
On the other hand, the UK and French markets recorded a decline in demand, although they remain the top choices, while Italy and Germany recorded growth rates of 2.7% and 7.3% respectively.
