New passenger record at Greek airports in 2018

According to HCAA statistics about airport traffic during the 12-month period of January-December 2018, there is a significant increase in the country’s air traffic and record of all times.

The total number of passengers during January-December 2018 amounted to 63.728.596, showing a 10.1% increase compared to the corresponding period of 2017, when 57.864.593 passengers were delivered.

More specifically, the passengers in 2018 increased by 5.864.003 compared to 2017, while the total number of flights at greek airports amounted to 532.631 (207.367 domestic and 325.264 international flights) reporting a 10% increase compared to the corresponding period of 2018 when there were 484.129 flights.

According to HCAA data, the profile of 2018 is the following:

11.8% increase in the total passenger traffic (domestic-international) in December – 2.45 million passengers were delivered. 12.7% increase in the international arrivals.

According to the statistics on December 2018: 2.445.140 passengers were delivered at the country’s airports, an increase of 11.8%. The total number of flights amounted to 24.299 showing a 13.2% increase compared to the corresponding period of 2017, when there were 21.459 flights.

It is worth mentioning that the international arrivals reached to 674.850, reporting a 12.7% increase compared to 598.923 international arrivals in 2017.

The highest passenger traffic for December 2018 is recorded at the airports of Athens, Thessaloniki, Heraklion, Chania and Rhodes.

According to HCAA statistics, the airports of Athens, Thessaloniki, Heraklion, Chania and Rhodes showed the highest passenger traffic in December.

The airports of Sitia, Milos and Naxos reported the highest percentage increase in passengers during the 12-month period of January-December 2018.

HCCA also announces that, according to statistics for the 12-month period (January-December 2018), the airport of Sitia had the highest increase rate in passengers’ delivery, reporting a 90.6% increase (61.892 passengers in the 12-month period of 2018 compared to 32.479 passengers of 2017).

The airport of Milos also reported a 61.8% increase in passenger traffic (75.556 passengers compared to 46.710 passengers last year).

The airport of Naxos reported a 52.2% passengers’ increase as it delivered 86.212 passengers in 2018, compared to 56.647 passengers in 2017.

Commenting on passenger traffic data for the twelve months of 2018, the Civil Aviation Authority Commander, Konstantinos Linzerakos said: “In January 2018 we received the airports with a passenger traffic of 44.592.274 passengers. Through constant struggle and work we managed to serve 63.728.596 passengers, the highest passenger traffic reported in the country during the last 4 years. The staff and management of HCAA will continue to serve the air passenger traffic based on the public interest and the country’s financial profit, implementing the European regulations and the safety standards”.
