Oman Air starts Athens-Muscat service

Oman Air, the national carrier of the Sultanate of Oman, flagged off its new daily route between Greece and Oman, with its first Athens-Muscat flight departing Athens International Airport on 2nd June 2019.

With a flight time of approximately six hours, flight WY194 departed Athens at 00.20, arriving into the award-winning new passenger terminal at Muscat International Airport at 06.35 the same day. The direct flight is the only non-stop operation between Greece and Oman benefitting both business and leisure travellers, as well as the Greek community in Oman. The new service also offers seamless connections via Oman Air’s hub, Muscat International Airport, to the carrier’s destinations across the globe.

The Inaugural flight from Oman’s capital Muscat to Athens, WY 193 departed on 1st June and saw the Honorary Consul of Greece to the Sultanate of Oman, Dr Elias Nikolakopoulos accompanying Oman Air’s delegation led by Senior Vice President, International Sales, Laurent Recoura, to celebrate the launch of this new route. After landing in Athens the team was accorded an official reception at Athens International Airport.

omanAbdulaziz Al Raisi, Oman Air’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “We are extremely proud and happy to add Athens to our network, as the second new route launched in 2019. Oman has strong bilateral relations with Greece and the introduction of this new flight will certainly help strengthen relations even further. Trade between Oman and Greece is growing and we are happy to be able to facilitate this further with the start of this service. Oman is turning into a very important regional logistics hub with world-class infrastructure and we are sure Greek investors and companies recognise the opportunities here.

Laurent Recoura, Senior Vice President, International Sales at Oman Air said: “We are confident that our new service will meet the demand for both business and leisure traffic, allowing us to showcase our beautiful country to Greek visitors. Our new service between Muscat and Athens is the airline’s 54th destination and the second route launched this year after Alexandria, Egypt. The move comes as part of Oman Air’s fleet and network expansion programme, which will see the airline operate up to 70 aircraft to around 60 destinations by 2022.”
