Digital detox is taking centre stage this summer, with travel trends dictating a return to nature, books and authentic experiences such as garden-to-table cooking, Pinterest’s annual 2025 Summer Trends report reveals.
According to the popular platform, people, especially Gen Z, are looking to reconnect in all aspects of life, choosing nature-driven travel, disconnecting from screens and returning to books, as well as adopting a rustic aesthetic.
Nature trips and literary escapes in the spotlight
This summer’s travel trends reflect a growing desire for digital detox as people seek to reconnect with nature and relax with a good book.
In particular, searches for nature getaways have increased by 72%, with an impressive 177% increase recorded for the Swiss countryside. Meanwhile, concepts such as “beautiful view nature” and “forest with water” show impressive search rates of 207% and 174%, respectively, highlighting this trend for mindfulness and mental balance.
Similarly, searches for escapes accompanied by books emphasise the need for simple pleasures, with travellers seeking literary escapes that encourage mental relaxation.
In this context, “Book retreats” have increased by 103%, while searches for trips that combine reading a book are up 64%.
The “mountain” option is a top trend
Searches for mountain getaways have skyrocketed, with the platform recording an impressive 221% increase for Kilimanjaro. In this context, searches for “mountain outfit summer casual” have seen a 42% increase and “outfits for mountain trip summer” a 39% increase, indicating that style is a benchmark for both hikers and mountain enthusiasts.
Meanwhile, searches for “aesthetic hiking pictures” have seen a 225% increase.
Back to pure raw materials – A holistic approach
The return to nature and the emphasis on well-being, if combined with the “Martha Stewart aesthetic” for which searches have “skyrocketed” by 2,889%, make for a holistic experience.
Pinterest users are turning to garden-to-table cooking, with related searches up 117%, to urban farming (+374%) and fresh summer recipes (+33%), to creating a small vegetable garden (+246%) or just a garden (+259%).
This shift not only promotes reconnecting with nature, but also dovetails perfectly with the rise in summer detox drinks, with searches having “skyrocketed” by 566% on Pinterest.
The findings of the Pinterest report best captures the need for people to reconnect with nature, enjoy authentic experiences and away from screens and likes to make a complete lifestyle restart.
