A Ryanair aircraft from London crashed into a barrier after landing at Kalamata airport.
The Boeing 737, which had departed from London Stansted Airport on Wednesday morning (18.06.2025), suffered “severe turbulence” during the flight, before landing and crashing into the barriers at Kalamata International Airport, leaving the wing of the aircraft damaged.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, but passengers were asked to remain on board despite concerns about a fire.
Images published by The Sun show the plane with the wing badly damaged. Passengers on board the plane reportedly then heard a “loud bang” but were told to remain seated until emergency services arrived.
A Ryanair spokesman told Metro: ‘The flight from London Stansted to Kalamata (18 June) was taxiing to its parking position when the wingtip made contact with a fence at Kalamata airport.
The aircraft then resumed its parking position and the passengers disembarked as normal. The aircraft was subjected to the required inspections and maintenance before being returned to service.”
The aviation industry is in a state of shock after the Air India disaster in which 270 people, most of whom were passengers, died, while others died on the ground when the Boeing 787 crashed in Ahmedabad.
