Ryanair has announced the grounding of the majority of its fleet from the 24th of March in order to control the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The airline states on its website:

“Our flight schedules have been hugely disrupted by the EU Governments restrictions and will be subject to further cuts:

  • From 24:00 hrs Wed 18 Mar until 24:00 hrs Tue 24 Mar, Ryanair Group will cut flight schedules by over 80%.
  • From 24:00 hrs Tue 24 Mar it is expected that most, if not all, Ryanair Group flights will be grounded, except for a very small number of flights to maintain essential connectivity, mostly between the UK and Ireland.

Ryanair will continue to stay in contact with Foreign Ministries of all EU Governments on the repatriation of EU citizens, and where possible rescue flights may be operated to support this repatriation”.
