TEMES S.A. the development company of Costa Navarino, issues its first sustainability report according to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G4 Sustainability Reporting Guidelines – “core” requirements for the period 1/1/2015 – 31/12/2015.
By providing accessible and comparable information on the economic, environmental and social performance of TEMES, the sustainability report becomes a mechanism that turns abstract themes like “environmental protection” into tangible aspects, hence promoting understanding and cooperation.
The sustainability report focuses on the significant economic, environmental and social impacts of Costa Navarino, as defined by an open and extensive dialogue with all our main stakeholders, such as partners, the local communities, environmental NGOs, Media and authorities.
Mr Stephanos Theodorides, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, TEMES SA highlighted: “The environmental and social responsibility has been embedded in our philosophy from our very inception. It is our priority to follow a sustainable tourism model that allows financial development to go hand in hand with respect to the preservation of the landscape, biodiversity, history and culture of the region. The publication of our first sustainability report adheres and continues on our main philosophy and overall commitment to sustainability. In addition, it shows our intention to bring our cooperation and open communication with our stakeholders to the forefront by setting a framework that will not only improve the company’s sustainability strategy, but also contribute in the overall development of Messinia”.
Our close cooperation with our stakeholders led to a number of very successful initiatives. Such initiatives include the Navarino Environmental Observatory, a pioneer research centre for the study of climate change, and Natura Hall, an interactive environmental exhibition centre. Both were established as a result of the cooperation between TEMES, Stockholm University and the Academy of Athens.
Moreover, TEMES supports a unique program for the protection of the African chameleon, in cooperation with the Hellenic Herpetological Society, and an extensive monitoring and protection program for the loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta Caretta) in cooperation with Archelon, the Sea Turtle Protection Society of Greece.
The report was prepared with the support of Ernst & Young Hellas, and was externally assured by TÜV HELLAS (TÜV NORD) according to ΑΑ1000AS standard (Accountability Assurance Standard).
