The Greek islands among the family-friendly holiday destinations in Europe

TOURISM

The Greek islands are among the 12 safest travel destinations in Europe for families with children, according to the Safety Index of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

In particular, Greece is ranked 11th out of 12 destinations, with Reykjavik in Iceland being the first one.

Referring to the Greek islands, the OECD notes that Greece has a huge number of islands and many of them, such as Mykonos, Rhodes and Santorini, are favourite family holiday destinations, with each having something to offer.

According to the OECD, from the beautiful beaches of Crete and the quiet villages of Santorini to the romantic, historic atmosphere of Rhodes, the Greek islands have something to offer all types of families. Most of them are very safe destinations where both children and adults can enjoy the beach and great food.

Reykjavik, says the Agency, is an ideal destination for a winter getaway for younger children and teenagers alike, offering nature lovers the opportunity to observe monkeys and enjoy the Northern Lights. While, older children will enjoy the stunning Thingvellir National Park and its magnificent geysers. Besides, Reykjavik is located in Iceland, which is one of the safest countries in the world.

“From Portugal to Greece, and from the Mediterranean to Santa’s village in Finland, there are many safe holiday destinations in Europe. All you have to do is convince all family members to travel to the place you like best. Using the OECD’s safety index, you can easily determine how safe a country is before you plan your holiday,” says the OECD.
