The National Museum of Contemporary Art (NMCA) will be available to the public in the end of February as it was announced by the Minister of Culture and Sport, Mrs Lina Mendoni along with the General Secretary of Contemporary Culture, Nikola Gastromanolaki, with the presence of the Museum’s director Dimitri Antonakaki and George Papanastasiou, the president of D.S.
The NMCA, which was received as an establishment the February of 2014, remains closed. The main problem which kept the museum closed was the lack of coordination. However, nowadays, these problems are dealt right away.
At the moment, based on the research of the ex director, Mrs Katerina Koskina, the main exhibition is about to be completed. In January, the lights, the organization of the reception area and the customer service will be completed as well. Similarly, the procedures for the operation of the restaurant and the shop are in progress. Moreover, the design of NMCA’s corporate identity is in the stage of implementation.
The NMCA will be able to represent the Greek contemporary art and the work of Greek artists, while it will constitute an educational center for the younger, encouraging their relationship with the art. Finally, it is necessary to remind that the Ministry of Culture and Sport has spent more than 40 million Euros for the reconstruction of the ex Brewing Fix’s building, while Stavros Niarchos Cultural Center has donated 3 million Euros in July of 2018, for the Museum’s equipment and the research for the main exhibition.
