Jet2 will add 1% of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to some flights leaving from Bristol Airport this year.
The airline has bought more than 300 tonnes of SAF, which has 70% fewer emissions than conventional aviation fuel.
Jet2 said using a SAF blend this year means it can prepare its operation ahead of the UK SAF mandate being introduced from 1 January 2025, which requires that SAF should make up at least 10% of an airline’s fuel by 2030.
Ahead of today’s announcement, Jet2 had already invested in a waste-to-fuel production plant being built in the north-west of England as part of its strategy to reach net zero by no later than 2050.
