reveals 61% of Brits believe that under the traffic light travel system, the Green tier should mean restriction free travel this summer.<\/p><div class=\"money-content\" style=\"float: left;\" none;\"\/><\/div>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/money-tourism.gr\/en\/?s=easyJet\">traffic light system<\/a> will add green and amber categories of countries to the current red list used by the government. Currently countries on the green list will require Brits to take a PCR Covid test before they fly there, at additional expense.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/money-tourism.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/easyjet-51124795864_15bd7596d0_k.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-226880 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/money-tourism.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/easyjet-51124795864_15bd7596d0_k.jpg\" alt=\"easyjet British\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1365\" srcset=\"https:\/\/money-tourism.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/easyjet-51124795864_15bd7596d0_k.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/money-tourism.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/easyjet-51124795864_15bd7596d0_k-1536x1024.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2048px) 100vw, 2048px\" \/><\/a>55% of Brits say they will not be able to go on holiday this summer if expensive PCR Covid tests, currently costing up to \u00a3150, are imposed on passengers to low-risk \u2018green\u2019 tier countries.<\/p>\n<p>Under these rules, with the current costs of Covid tests, there is a risk that foreign travel will simply be out of reach for many hard-working families flying from the UK this summer. For a family of four, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/article\/cost-of-home-covid-tests-for-travellers-halved-as-companies-accused-of-profiteering-lh76wb585\">recent reports suggest that tests alone could cost between \u00a3240 to \u00a3600 to go on holiday to Greece, Spain or Portugal.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>According to research from easyJet, which polled 2,000 British holidaymakers,\u00a0almost three-quarters (74%) of Brits believe that if tests do remain a requirement for travel to low-risk green tier countries, they should be in line with the lateral flow testing being used for the reopening of the rest of the UK economy rather than the more complex and expensive PCR tests.\u00a0PCR tests are processed in a laboratory and come at a far greater expense than lateral flow tests, which give results in 30 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Well over half (58%) of us are more likely to take a holiday abroad to low-risk green countries this summer if the government introduced cheaper lateral flow tests in place of expensive PCR tests.<\/p>\n<p>The study also reveals that the average Brit believes the cost of a PCR test should be brought down to \u00a330 if they have to remain, with the maximum they are willing to spend being \u00a350.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to the more \u2018at-risk\u2019 countries, amber and red on the government\u2019s traffic light system,<\/p>\n<p>90% of Brits agree testing is needed to ensure safe travel.<\/p>\n<p>Almost two-thirds (62%) believe that having a PCR Covid test on our return from a low-risk country is unnecessary.<\/p>\n<p>The research shows that Brits have not had a foreign holiday in 620 days. This means the average Brits faces not having a holiday abroad for three years if current testing rules and costs apply.<\/p>\n<p>Of those surveyed well over a half (56%) said a summer break away was the thing they were most looking forward to post lockdown. In fact, nearly three-quarters (74%) said they believe a proper summer holiday is vital to both the economy and the nation\u2019s mental wellbeing this summer.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not just holidays that fuel our desire to go abroad, with over a third (35%) wanting to travel this summer to see family that they haven\u2019t seen during the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Johan Lundgren, <\/strong>easyJet CEO, said: <em>\u201cThe UK government need to come out as early as possible with final details of the testing regime and let the public know the tiers countries will be put into and the criteria it will use to decide those tiers. We believe that most European countries should be in the green tier based on the protection the NHS provided Brits through our vaccination roll-out and the low presence of variants of concern in most European countries<\/p>\n<p>\u201ceasyJet was founded to make travel affordable for all. Before the pandemic we were flying around 100 million customers paying \u00a350 per flight on average. At the current costs, even low-risk, green destinations look likely to make travelling for a well-deserved holiday or the chance to see family out of reach for many &#8211; and the preserve of the rich &#8211; this is unfair.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe are not pushing for the reopening of travel at any cost \u2013 we need to protect the NHS and vaccination programme, but we have worked with expert scientists to understand what would be needed to safely restart travel. Passenger health and safety remains our absolute priority and strongly believe that with vaccination, travel to a low-risk government approved destination should not be placed prohibitively out of place by unnecessary, costly PCR testing. The public recognise that green tier travelling should mean safe travel without exorbitant costs.
