TUI UK Holiday Booking Survey Results: Thomson and First Choice ahead of Thomas Cook Morgan Stanley has published its results from a survey of over 1,000 Britons on their intention to take an overseas holiday this summer. For package holidays, UK adults are most likely to use Thomas Cook (26% vs 2014 27%), followed by Thomson (20% vs 27%) and First Choice (15% vs 10%). This still puts TUI (Thomson + First Choice) ahead of Thomas Cook, but the gap has closed. Holidaymakers aged 55+ prefer package tours offered by Thomson, while a growing number of tourists in the 18-34 age group book holidays from Thomas Cook. MARKET & COMPETITION Greece: Athens adopts second package of reforms The Greek parliament has also adopted the second package of reform measures demanded by Greece’s creditors, paving the way for the start of talks on a new rescue package. Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras can now negotiate a third bailout package with the international lenders. As the President of the Hellenic Parliament announced, 230 of the 300 members of parliament voted in favour of the reform package. Tunisia to obtain EU support for border control following terrorist attack Tunisia is to obtain EU support to help the country secure its borders following the terror attacks on western holidaymakers. The foreign ministers of the EU member states have commissioned the European External Action Service to develop corresponding plans as soon as possible. Germany, France and the UK have submitted a specific proposal to set up an EU mission to provide training to Tunisian security forces for better border security. The goal of the assistance scheme is to improve security at tourist sites. Germanwings victims’ families accuse Lufthansa of neglecting them The families of Germanwings crash victims have blamed parent company Lufthansa for serious deficiencies in the aftermath of the crash. More than 30 parents of students and teachers from a school in Haltern killed in the crash have accused, in particular, Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr personally in a letter to the airline’s CEO. In the letter, the parents claim that Spohr has not spoken with the victims’ families personally and that the Group has not apologised for the crash. The families also demand higher compensation. A Lufthansa spokesperson has denied the claims. Turkish Airlines eyes Germany for low-cost subsidiary According to Turkish Airlines CEO Temel Kotil, Turkish Airlines is planning to offer cheap tickets for flights departing from German airports on board its low-cost subsidiary AnadoluJet from next summer. However, a final decision has not yet been taken. This far, AnadoluJet has only offered flights to Turkey with its fleet of 29 aircraft. The Turkish low-cost carrier would compete, in particular, with Eurowings. Boeing lowers profit guidance for 2015 A tanker contract from the US has adversely impacted Q2 profits for the aviation and arms group Boeing. CEO Dennis Muilenburg lowered the profit outlook for 2015 as the development of the air refuelling technology will be more difficult than expected. Earnings per share are expected to amount to 7.6 to 7.8 US dollars this year – around six per cent down on the previous guidance.
