International air arrivals in Greece totaled 26.2 million from January to October 2025, an increase of 1.4 million or 5.6% compared to the same period in 2024. Most destinations saw an increase, with Santorini being the only exception, according to official data released by INSETE.
According to these data, the fourth quarter of 2025 also started on an upward trend, with October recording 2.5 million international arrivals, an increase of +151 thousand/+6.6% compared to the same month in 2024.
Best results in international air arrivals in the 9-month period
During the period January–October 2025, Athens International Airport recorded the highest number of arrivals, reaching 7.7 million passengers and marking an increase of +650 thousand/+9.2% compared to the same period in 2024. In Thessaloniki, arrivals totaled 2.4 million, marking a +222 thousand/+10.3% increase.
The trend of international air arrivals for the period January–October 2025 remains upward, with increases in most geographic units of the country.
Most arrivals were recorded in Crete, with 5.6 million passengers, an increase of +276,000/+5.2% compared to the same period in 2024. Followed by the Dodecanese, with 4.5 million arrivals, up +101 thousand/+2.3%, and the Ionian Islands, with 4.0 million arrivals, showing an increase of +187 thousand/+5.0%.
In the Peloponnese, arrivals totaled 253,000, up 24,000 or 10.5% from 2024.
In contrast, the Cyclades (Mykonos and Santorini) were the only geographic unit to experience a decline from January to October 2025, with 1.2 million arrivals, a decrease of –92 thousand/–7.2% compared to the same period of the previous year.
Note that Mykonos recorded 534,000 arrivals, an increase of +11,000/+2.1%, while Santorini saw a decrease of –103,000/-13.6% to 653,000 arrivals.
Travel Receipts
In terms of travel receipts, the period January-September 2025 saw a +9.0% increase compared to the same period in 2024, reaching €20.133 billion.
This development is due to both an increase in revenue from European Union residents by +5.6%, which amounted to €10,984 million, and an increase in revenue from residents of other countries by +12.7%, which amounted to €8,166 million.
In more detail, revenue from residents of the € zone countries amounted to €8,425 million, an increase of +3.5%, while revenue from residents of European Union countries outside the € zone increased by +13.3% and amounted to €2,559 million.
The only exception was Germany, where revenue fell by -0.8% to €3.115 billion.
In contrast, revenue from France increased by +7.3% to €1.192 billion, while revenue from Italy also increased by +6.9% to €1.197 billion.
From other countries, revenue from the United Kingdom rose by +11.9%, reaching €3,098 million, while revenue from the US rose by +11.7% to €1,399 million.
Short-term rentals on the rise
The number of short-term rental accommodations continued to rise from January to October 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, a trend that began in 2023 and strengthened throughout 2024.
In October, as every year, a seasonal decline was recorded, with accommodations reaching 234,000, but remaining higher by +9,000 compared to 225,000 in October 2024.
Meanwhile, the available beds were adjusted to 1.03 million, marking a seasonal decline, but remaining higher by +38 thousand compared to the 992 thousand in October 2024.
