The Region of Ionian Islands’ autonomous, dynamic, and outgoing presence at the World Travel Market 2025 in London

-Ionian Islands Regional Governor, Yannis Trepeklis: “The Ionian Islands remain a top choice for the British – particularly optimistic messages for the next tourist season regarding our region”

-The Ionian Islands Region is developing a strategy to penetrate new dynamic markets, such as the US, China, Korea, and India, while reactivating traditional markets, such as Scandinavia” – A Cooperation Agreement was signed with the Organizing Committee of the 2026 World Island Expo, which will take place in Korea, with the active participation of the Ionian Islands Region.

The Ionian Islands Region participated with complete success in the World Travel Market 2025 International Tourism Exhibition, held from November 4 to 6 at the ExCeL exhibition and conference center in London, leaving a strong impression on the British market and further strengthening its international presence in the strategic tourism sector.

With a stand of its own and a unified, modern aesthetic identity, the Region presented the multi-level advantages of the Ionian Islands in a comprehensive manner, attracting the interest of thousands of visitors, journalists, tourism professionals, and representatives of major tour operators. The attendance was impressive, and the overall image and organization of the booth received extremely positive comments.

The Regional Governor of the Ionian Islands, Giannis Trepeklis, expressed his satisfaction with the dynamic presence of the P.I.N. at this year’s World Travel Market and emphasized:

“The Ionian Islands Region has a strong footprint in the British market, which is a stable pillar supporting our tourism product. The Ionian Islands continue to be a top choice for British visitors, a fact that was confirmed this year by the strong interest shown at our stand. The messages for the next tourist season are particularly optimistic.”

The regional governor highlighted the comparative advantages of the Ionian Islands, noting that beyond their unparalleled natural beauty, “the rich cultural heritage, gastronomy, and most importantly, the long-standing tradition of hospitality of the residents and tourism professionals, all combine to create a high-quality tourist product with international recognition.”

At the same time, Mr. Trepeklis referred to the excellent cooperation between the Region of Ionian Islands, the Municipalities, the Chambers and the tourism organizations, stressing that “the common actions of extroversion and synergy, such as those that are developing with the Ionian University, enhance the overall competitiveness of the destination.”

As Mr. Trepeklis emphasized, the strategic plan for the Region’s tourism promotion is evolving, moving along two axes: the methodical and targeted penetration of new dynamic markets, such as the USA, China, and India, where the Ionian Islands are now gaining a presence, and the reactivation of markets of historical interest, such as Scandinavia, which are dynamically returning to the forefront of European travel flows.

A special moment of the presence of the PIN at the World Travel Market 2025 was the signing of a Cooperation Agreement with the Organizing Committee of the World Islands Exhibition 2026, which will be hosted in Yeosu, Korea, with the theme “Island, Connecting the Sea and the Future”. The Ionian Islands Region will actively participate in this international festival, which is expected to be a reference point for the sustainable development of the planet’s island regions.

Mr. Trepeklis thanked everyone who contributed to the excellent operation and image of the pavilion, the executives of the Regional Authority, the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontian Islands, as well as the representatives of the Chambers and the tourism organizations of the Ionian Islands, for their substantial cooperation and effective promotion of the identity of the Ionian Islands to the international public.

It was a common conclusion that the Region of Ionian Islands consistently and strategically implements its policy of extroversion and cooperation, promoting the unique experiences, culture, and sustainable development that make up the strong tourism brand of the Ionian Islands.
