Greece has received yet another major international distinction in the Finnish tourism market, winning first prize in the “World’s Best Travel Destination 2026” category at the Grand Travel Award Finland 2026 for the second consecutive year. The awards ceremony took place in Helsinki on May 28, 2026.
Greece was named the world’s leading travel destination, outperforming strong competitors such as Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Norway, thereby reaffirming its enduring appeal and strong brand recognition in the Finnish market.
The Grand Travel Awards are one of the most widely recognized and prestigious award institutions in the travel industry in the Nordic countries. In Finland, the winners are selected through an independent survey conducted by the research company Nordic Bench, combining evaluations from consumers and travelers, opinions from tourism professionals, as well as assessments by a panel of expert judges.
During the ceremony, a total of ten awards were presented to destinations and companies that stood out for the quality of their services, high customer satisfaction, and leading role in the tourism industry. The event brought together approximately 300 representatives of the travel industry, business executives, partners, and members of the media.
Greece’s distinction was based, among other factors, on its renowned hospitality, rich culinary tradition, the authentic travel experiences offered by Greek destinations, as well as the consistently high popularity the country enjoys among Finnish travelers.
Greece continues to inspire and attract visitors from all over the world, offering a unique combination of culture, history, natural beauty, and modern travel experiences that meet the demands of today’s traveler.
The award was received on behalf of Greece by the Head of the GNTO Office for Scandinavia, Eftychia Aivalioti, and the Chargé d’Affaires of the Greek Embassy in Finland, Dimitris Karakonstantis.
This latest distinction confirms Greece’s steadily growing appeal in the Finnish market and highlights the success of the targeted promotional and marketing activities implemented by the Greek National Tourism Organization in the Scandinavian countries.
At the same time, it demonstrates the strong interest of Finnish travelers in our country and further strengthens Greece’s position as a destination of high quality, authentic experiences, and sustainable tourism development.
Greece’s consistent presence among the top preferences of the Finnish public provides a strong foundation for the further growth of tourism flows from this market and confirms that our country remains one of the most attractive travel destinations internationally.
