Air traffic controllers’ strike on August 28 in Greece

A notice of an upcoming strike was issued by the United Trade Union Movement of Air Traffic Controllers.

The announcement states the following:

“On August 28, air traffic control workers at all airports and units will go on strike!

Air traffic controllers, who are witnessing a predicted aviation crime before our eyes, will not tolerate the silence that the government is trying to impose with the disciplinary law bill, which wants to make us silent observers in the name of the obligation of “confidentiality” and the punishment of any “malicious criticism.”

Every day we see a failure, every day a problem, every day pressure to speed up air traffic flow, at the expense of flight safety. For example, on August 20, a failure paralyzed the air traffic control systems at the Athens airport, while capacity is constantly being exceeded, with arrivals reaching up to 34 per hour.

These are the things the government doesn’t want to be made public.

Meanwhile, the government is introducing a bill that further dismantles the Civil Aviation Authority, with the intention of dividing it up and handing it over to private individuals.

On August 28th, all airports in Greece will stop operations!

Terrorism does not intimidate us. The enforcers of the Ministry and the companies’ strike-breaking orders, the president of the GATCA board and his team, who are deliberately delaying the convening of the general assembly that the workers have decided to hold in order to undermine the success of the strike, no longer represent anyone; they have been delegitimized by the workers, who are not following them down the path of submission.

They are trying in every way to suppress the indignation of the workers in the industry in order to impose a tombstone silence on Air Traffic Control, which is facing the risk of an air accident.

“Workers are participating en masse in the strike and the strike rallies on August 28th.”

The GATCA also sent the following statement:

The Board of Air Traffic Controllers (GATCA) has decided to call on its members to participate in the 24-hour strike called by ADEDY (Supreme Administration of Civil Servants Trade Unions) on August 28, with a four-hour work stoppage from 09:30 to 13:30 local time, with the demands put forward by ADEDY.
