Finnair, Finland’s national carrier, announced on Thursday, August 28, 2025, an ambitious expansion plan for the summer of 2026, with new routes that strengthen the connection between Northern Europe and the Mediterranean.
According to aerotime, Greece is at the center of the action, as Kos is making a strong comeback to the company’s network with direct flights from Helsinki, after years of the destination being served mainly by charter flights.
According to the announcement, Finnair will operate two weekly Helsinki-Kos flights from May 5 to October 24, 2026. This program covers the entire tourist season, from spring to autumn, allowing travelers to discover the island not only during the peak season, but also during quieter periods.
Direct connections with Finland are expected to increase the flow of Scandinavian visitors, boosting the local economy and creating new opportunities for tourism-related collaborations.
Finnair has a long-standing strong presence in the Greek market, with regular connections to:
- Crete (Chania, Heraklion)
- Rhodes
- Santorini
Finnair’s strategy is not limited to Greece. The same announcement package also includes new destinations in Italy and Spain, which shows the company’s effort to establish a strong network in the Mediterranean.
- Florence, Italy: From April 2 to October 18, 2026, twice a week.
- Catania (Italy): From March 31 to October 21, 2026, three times a week.
- Valencia (Spain): From April 11 to October 24, 2026, twice a week.
With this network, Finnair is creating a comprehensive network that connects Scandinavia with major tourist destinations in Southern Europe.
