Record nights spent in tourist accommodations in the EU in 2025, reaching 3.08 billion, showing a 2% increase from 2024, which in absolute terms means 61.5 million more nights, with Greece among the “winners” of the year, recording an increase at the same level of 2%, which confirms the country’s strong momentum in European tourism, according to Eurostat.
According to data from the European Statistical Authority, the number of overnight stays in tourist accommodations in almost all EU countries increased in 2025 compared to the previous year. The largest increase was recorded in Malta (+10%), followed by Poland (+7%) and Latvia (+6%). Meanwhile, only two countries saw marginal decreases: Romania (-1%) and Ireland (-2%).

The increase in overnight stays in Greece demonstrates the remarkable dynamism of Greek tourism and the country’s continued demand as a tourist destination.
The increase in overnight stays is mainly due to the increase in international tourist arrivals, with overnight stays by international visitors in Europe increasing by 46.1 million, while overnight stays by domestic visitors showed a slower growth rate and amounted to 15.4 million.
Last year, the overnight stays of tourists in the EU presented a fairly balanced picture overall, with 49% of overnight stays coming from international travelers and 51% from domestic visitors.
In terms of accommodation type, hotels and similar establishments recorded 1.9 billion overnight stays, accounting for 63% of the total, confirming their “leading” role in the market. Followed by vacation homes and other short-term accommodations, with 743 million (24%), and camping sites with 413 million overnight stays (13%).
These figures are based on Eurostat’s initial estimates for overnight stays in hotels and other tourist accommodations.
