Hotel Grande Bretagne and King George Hotel will go dark for one hour on March 30th 2019 to shine a light on climate action in support of Earth Hour 2019.

The hotel will join millions around the world in turning off its lights at 8:30 p.m. local time to illuminate a powerful message about environmental awareness and action. The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) created the annual global environmental awareness event 12 years ago to emphasize the threat of climate change.

Hotel Grande Bretagne and King George Hotel will once again participate by several activities, which will include: turn off exterior signage lighting; dim or turn off non-essential interior lighting; use candlelight in appropriate public areas such as restaurants and bars; use in-room television messages to inform guests about Earth Hour observances; give to event organizers the chance to participate and include unique awareness posts on social media channels. Hotel Grande Bretagne and King George Hotel will also participate in Marriott International’s drive to raise funds for WWF and apart from encouraging associates to dim or turn off the lights in their homes, an all-day candlelight lunch and dinner will take place at the associate’s cafeteria. As in previous years, for each property that posts their Earth Hour efforts on Twitter or Instagram with #MIEarthHour #Serve360 Marriott will donate US$3 to WWF.

“Each year, we celebrate Earth Hour and are reminded of the importance this event has in bringing awareness to the pressing issues of climate change” said Denise Naguib, Vice President of Sustainability and Supplier Diversity. “We have a responsibility, and an opportunity to share this message with the millions of guests and associates through bringing Earth Hour to life, and continuing the focus every day through our sustainability and social impact platform, Serve 360.”

ananiadisMr. Tim Ananiadis, General Manager and Managing Director of Hotel Grande Bretagne & King George Athens also encourages the global effort to raise awareness to the threat of climate change and says “We are very happy that we have the chance to participate for another year to this very important action for our environment both locally and at an international level through Marriott International, all united in order to increase awareness towards climate change and energy saving for the future of our planet.”
