Passenger traffic at the 24 airports managed by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (Heraklion, Kalamata, Alexandroupolis, Limnos, Astypalaia, Ioannina, Chios, Kozani, Kastoria, Karpathos, Kythira, Milos, Skyros, Nea Anchialos, Paros, Syros, Araxos, Naxos, Kalymnos, Ikaria, Kastellorizo, Kasos, Leros, Sitia) recorded an increase of 6.7% in the January–August 2025 period compared with the same period of 2024.
Specifically, according to official statistics, the total number of passengers (arrivals and departures on both international and domestic flights) in January–August 2025 reached 8,924,516, compared with 8,361,342 in 2024.
In August 2025, Heraklion’s state airport “Nikos Kazantzakis” handled 1,789,861 passengers, an increase of 6.9% over the same month last year. At the same time, the most notable percentage increases in passenger traffic among HCAA-managed airports in August 2025 compared with August 2024 were recorded at:
- Syros Airport: +105.3% (3,763 passengers in 2025 vs. 1,833 in 2024)
- Naxos Airport: +19.3% (39,464 vs. 33,073)
- Astypalaia Airport: +18.4% (6,029 vs. 5,092)
Overall rise of 4.6% in passenger traffic and 3.5% in aircraft movements across 39 airports
Passenger traffic at all 39 airports in Greece with commercial flights (24 HCAA, 14 Fraport Greece, Athens International Airport) rose by 4.6% in January–August 2025. Total passenger numbers reached 57,475,778, compared with 54,946,379 in the same period of 2024.
As for aircraft movements (arrivals and departures of domestic and international flights), January–August 2025 saw a 3.5% increase across the 39 airports, where air traffic control is primarily handled by HCAA. In total, 432,917 flights were recorded in the eight-month period, compared with 418,160 flights in 2024.
