New research from Compare the Market ranks the best cities for property investors in university towns across Europe, assessing each destination based on rental yield, student population, rental prices, and overall interest in student property investment. The results showed that Athens ranks 8th with a score of 55.55, offering an excellent opportunity for investors.
For many investors, student accommodation is a profitable opportunity with stable demand. Barcelona ranks at the top for investors looking to invest in student properties. Madrid, Brussels, Milan, and Lyon complete the top five for student housing investments.
Athens offers the most affordable price per square meter in Europe, at just €282.43, an attractive option for investors who prefer a lower initial investment. Compare the Market’s Director of Financial Services, Steven Zeller, said it is important for investors to do their research before deciding where to invest.
“If you are buying a property to rent to students, you should look for properties with good rental yields close to universities, but also consider other factors such as local transport links, nightlife, and shopping,” said Mr. Zeller. “The higher the cost, the more you may need to borrow through a mortgage, and this can affect your return. A lively university city like Athens offers excellent demand for accommodation,” he added.
