According to data from the Aviba travel agency association, sales of vacations to Spanish and foreign destinations have decreased due to a 30% increase in prices.
Sales of vacations to Spanish and foreign destinations have decreased by up to six percent this year. This comes after a 15% increase in 2024. If the holidays in Majorca and the Balearic Islands were characterized by higher prices, the same applies to the holidays that the islanders took.
According to the local newspaper Majorca Daily Bulletin, the association’s president, Pedro Fiól, notes that travel prices usually always increase, but points out that they skyrocketed after the pandemic. This had a lot to do with post-pandemic demand, and inflation was also a factor. Fiol points out that it’s not just flights and hotels that are more expensive. It’s all there – restaurants, rental cars, excursions. These higher prices ultimately led to a drop in demand.
A report from the National Statistical Service shows that 26% of the inhabitants of the Balearic Islands did not have the financial means for even a week’s vacation in 2024.
Northern Spain and European cities are usually the most popular destinations that take advantage of overtourism to increase their revenue.
This results in a decrease in the duration of vacations for the average traveler.
