Another outrageous story of overcharging in Mykonos: Restaurant charged 1,000 euros for 3 dishes

The famous luxury Mykonos restaurant and bar, DK Oyster, in Platis Gialos, made headlines in the British media this year as new reviews appeared on TripAdvisor about their prices.

An article in the British newspaper Daily Mail reports on a tourist who visited a Mykonos beach restaurant and was asked to pay a bill of 1,000 euros, of which 350 euros was for a fish.

According to the British publication, the “DK Oyster” is located on Platis Gialos Beach and advertises itself as a “high-end destination” for those “seeking special moments of relaxing seclusion.”

Jessica L, a tourist, shared her experience online on TripAdvisor, describing her visit to DK Oyster as “the worst experience in Mykonos.”

In a one-star review, she described how she and her dinner companions were charged over €1,000 for just three dishes.

“We paid 350 euros for a whole fish and 1,000 euros for three dishes. The worst experience in Mykonos, because even at Scorpions, which is one of the best places, we did not pay this amount for a dinner for 5 people with an appetizer, main course, and dessert,” he noted.

While the restaurant lists prices such as 24.80 euros per 100 grams of sea bass, customers claim that they are often not informed of the full cost until the final bill arrives—with some saying that they are charged by the gram for the fish without knowing this in advance.

Other TripAdvisor users shared Jessica’s disappointment, with many calling the restaurant a “complete scam.”

Describing the venue as a “shocking scam,” a customer named Sue wrote: “A staff member brought an extra drink—without me asking—as a ‘gift’ for the group of four. It seemed like a friendly gesture… until it appeared on the bill.”

Sue also claimed that she was charged 400 euros for a “handful” of alcoholic and soft drinks, including 35 euros for a Coca-Cola.

Another visitor, Amrita, who dined at the restaurant in June 2024, claimed that she was “enticed” with free sunbeds and a menu, and decided to order a fish.

“They never explained that the fish is charged by the weight of the whole fish. We realized when they brought a bill for 400 euros. The actual fish served was more than 1 kilogram,” he added.

Finally, another customer urged future visitors to avoid the restaurant at all costs, noting: “Lunch and sunbeds for 35 euros. But when we added two bottles of water and a diet coke, they added 51 euros. They then added another 5 euros for the use of ketchup and 18 euros for small french fries.”

In conclusion, the article reminds that DK Oyster made headlines in July 2024 for charging €121 for three crab legs to a group of undercover Daily Mail journalists.
