BREAKING NEWS: A well-known hotel in Rethymno will now be owned by Yiannis Daskalantonakis

According to exclusive information from MONEY& TOURISM, the Ibiscos Garden Hotel in Rethymno is reportedly acquiring a company with interests of Yannis Daskalantonakis. This information states that the deal should be considered a given, while there are inquiries about the acquisition of two more hotels, which are very close to Ibiscos.


The hotel, owned by the Papadouraki family and other smaller shareholders, has 128 rooms and apartments, and is a family-run hotel in Rethymno, Crete, offering accommodation and activities for families and couples, with a particular focus on service and hospitality.

The hotel rooms are as follows:

Ibiscos Studios 69 Studios and Quadruple Studios, 2 beds & 1 or 2 extra beds, approximately 26sqm. The studios at Ibiscos Garden Hotel are equipped with satellite TV, telephone, mini kitchen, safe, air conditioning, refrigerator, bathroom with shower, and furnished balcony.


Ibiscos Apartments 53 One-room and Large One-room Apartments, 2 beds & 2 or 3 extra beds, approximately 40sqm. The One-Bedroom Apartments are equipped with satellite TV, telephone, mini kitchen, safe, air conditioning, refrigerator, bathroom with shower and furnished balcony.

Two-room apartments Ibiscos 6 Two-room apartments, 4 beds & 2 extra beds, approximately 55sqm. Our large two-room apartments are equipped with satellite TV, telephone, mini kitchen, safe, air conditioning, refrigerator, bathroom with shower and furnished balcony.

The hotel’s two main pools, Palm Pool and Jasmine Pool, are complemented by the large Octopus Pool for kids, and two more secondary pools for kids. The main Pool Bar and the Restaurant are located in the wider area of the Palm Pool, while the second Pool Bar is located between the Jasmine Pool and the large Octopus Children’s Pool. There is also a specially designed indoor playground that combines a fully furnished Play Hotel area and an Inflatable Castle, and an outdoor playground available for children’s recreation and activities outdoors, right next to the Backyard Pool.

Y&T Daskalantonakis Knossians Group

The Knossians Group, owned and operated by Yannis and Tina Daskalantonakis, operates hotels in collaboration with international hospitality chains (Accor, Hyatt, Marriott, Intercontinental-IHG) and funds. The Knossians Group operates as the owner and manager of top-tier hotels in the southeastern European region, in Greece, Bulgaria, and Serbia, and has a partnership with the investment duo of Henderson Park and Hines for the hotels they have purchased in Greece.

In more detail, the group under Yannis and Tina Daskalantonakis owns three privately owned hotels in Bulgaria and Serbia, specifically the METROPOL PALACE in Serbia, SOFIA HOTEL PALACE in Bulgaria, MAISON SOFIA MGALLERY COLLECTION in Bulgaria, and some under lease-management in Greece, including THE GRAND HYATT ATHENS, NICO SEASIDE RESORT CRETE MGALLERY in Agios Nikolaos, APOLLONIA BEACH RESORT AND SPA in Heraklion, SITIA BEACH CITY RESORT AND SPA in Sitia, and some under renovation, but the timeline has not been decided as they remain closed after being acquired by CYAN HOTELS.

Even a few months ago, Mr. John Daskalantonakis is said to have personally purchased the Novotel Athens for €22 million.
