CNT: Greece in the top three countries in the world for travel

TOURISM

Greece is among the top three countries in the world for 2023, according to the Readers’ Choice Awards of the prestigious travel magazine Condé Nast Traveler.

Specifically, in a survey of 526,518 readers of the magazine on the top countries in the world, Greece is in third place, far ahead of popular travel destinations such as Spain, while Japan is in first place and at the bottom of the ranking – a surprising fact – is France.

In its report on Greece, CNT points out that it attracts record numbers of tourists, boasting some of the world’s most loved islands, such as the postcard-perfect Santorini, Mykonos with its mythical wealth and Crete, with its emerging wine scene.

This list of dream islands is constantly expanding, with more and more travellers visiting Paros, Hydra, Zakynthos, Ios and Tinos.

The magazine urges travellers not to ignore Athens, which is back in the spotlight after a riveting, economic crisis, suggesting visitors to Athens with innovative restaurants, trendy galleries and modern hotels that rank it among the coolest capitals in Europe.

But for those looking for a real adventure, the magazine suggests a trip to Zagorochoria, a collection of 46 traditional stone villages scattered around the mountains of Pindos in steep northwestern Greece. “Here, you’re more likely to encounter truffle hunters, hot springs and Orthodox monasteries than sun-seeking travellers,” the publication highlights.
