Around 7.3 million passengers were handled by Heathrow Airport, the largest airport in the UK, in September this year, an increase of more than 200,000 passengers compared to September 2023.
Heathrow announced its busiest start to the autumn, with record-breaking passenger numbers, while last month also marked the end of a highly successful summer tourist season, with more than 30 million passengers passing through the airport between June and September.
The busiest day ever for the airport in terms of arrivals was recorded on 2 September, when more than 140,500 passengers landed at Heathrow.
September 2023 was the first month in the airport’s history that the London-based, aviation hub exceeded seven million passengers.
In a statement, Heathrow’s chief executive, Thomas Woldbye, said: “We are rounding off our brilliant summer successfully, with over 30 million passengers passing through Heathrow’s doors in the last four months.”
British Airways will resume flights from the airport to the Georgian capital, Tbilisi, in the summer of 2025, after a hiatus of more than a decade.
The airline will also operate more than 400 direct flights per week to North America next summer to 26 cities.
Meanwhile, Manchester Airport is celebrating a milestone after reporting 30.1 million passengers in the last 12 months, with September being the 12th record month in a row. Meanwhile, the airport reported that 93% of passengers reached security in less than 10 minutes.
