Offering Christmas presents is a favourite tradition for Brits, however, more than six in 10 (62%) would prefer a holiday trip with their loved ones to presents.
A new survey conducted by KAYAK, the world’s leading travel search engine, reveals that given the choice, over a quarter (28%) of Brits would relish the chance to spend Christmas in a snowy destination.
However, not everyone is a fan of snow and cold, with one in four Brits (25%) voting for a relaxing, and probably warm, beach holiday. In this context, 18% would book a quiet retreat, preferring a peaceful and relaxing trip.
Over the festive season, Brits prioritise spending time with friends and family (71%), eating well (53%) and relaxing and resting (49%), while gift-giving is lower down the list of what they prefer, at 33%.
Despite the fact that Brits spend a lot of money on their friends and family, it turns out that they are not always thrilled with the gifts they receive for Christmas.
Over six in 10 (64%) admit they usually receive two presents a year that they don’t like, worth around £25, which unfortunately end up in the bin or unused.
Most unloved gifts include clothes they don’t like (29%), deodorant sets (21%) and socks (18%).
According to the survey findings, nearly nine in 10 (89%) pretend to like the gift or appreciate the thought behind it.
However, almost a third (32%) choose to give unwanted gifts to someone or donate them to charity (29%), while others leave them to… gather dust (18%).
