One hundred British holidaymakers who were struck down by serious illnesses linked to a Turkish five-star Mukarnas Resort and Spa Hotel in Antalya have launched a legal action for compensation in the High Court. Law firm Irwin Mitchell litigated proceedings against Jet2Holidays Limited with whom they had booked their holidays.
The tourists contracted gastric disease. Among those affected was a four-year-old girl who was diagnosed with salmonella. The group fell ill at various points between May and September 2022 with one child also suffering a fractured finger.
According to information from law firm Irwin Mitchell, the legal documents filed in the High Court allege, among other allegations, that Jet2Holidays was negligent as it was aware of the outbreak of illness at the resort and continued to send holidaymakers to the hotel. In addition, there was a failure to comply with health and safety regulations, putting several guests at risk. However, Jet2Holidays has denied liability before issuing proceedings for all 100 cases.
Among the plaintiffs is a family that includes a four-year-old girl diagnosed with salmonella and a 55-year-old nurse and her 18-year-old son who suffered gastric symptoms for several months after the holiday.
A Jet2holidays spokesman said: “It would be inappropriate to comment as instructions have been given to lawyers.”
Jatinder Paul is the specialist international serious injury lawyer at Irwin Mitchell representing tourists. He reported: “It is very worrying to hear how many people, including young children, have become seriously ill in this resort, especially in just a few months.
