NDR: Greece attracts pensioners with tax incentives and invests in the “Silver Economy”

Greece is emerging as an attractive destination for pensioners from Germany and other European countries, leveraging targeted tax incentives and the dynamism of the so-called “Silver Economy”, according to a television report by the German network NDR.

As noted, the Greek government is attempting to boost the domestic economy by attracting senior citizens who wish to transfer their tax residence to the country. In this context, a unified tax rate of 7% is provided for the total income of pensioners who settle in Greece.

This policy aims to increase tax revenues and boost consumption, as it is estimated that new residents will channel a significant portion of their income into the Greek economy.

According to studies cited in the report, the development of the “Silver Economy” could bring in up to 14 billion euros over the next five years, while also contributing to the creation of tens of thousands of jobs.

The report also documents the personal experience of a couple from Germany who decided to move to Thessaloniki, despite the difficulties they faced in finding accommodation shortly before their departure. As reported, this decision is part of a broader trend of European pensioners choosing to live “where others go on vacation,” seeking a better quality of life.

Greece is presented as a destination that combines mild climate, natural beauty and culture, while at the same time strengthening its strategy to attract long-term residents with economic and institutional tools.
